The kitchen gets wiped. The dishes get done. But the closet shelf, window tracks and cupboard handles keep waiting for a free Saturday that never comes.
Choose one area for the month, pick one manageable job for an available weekend, and agree on who owns it. You don’t need to deep clean the whole house every month.
The Real-Life Version
Plan this month’s project
5 steps
Planned. One job, one owner, one weekend.
Keep that review inside the weekly family reset, rather than adding a second planning session.
Where monthly projects fit in the system
The weekly cleaning schedule has three layers:
- Daily Reset: dishes, counters, beds and a quick pickup.
- Monday–Thursday zones: routine care of the Living Room, Bedrooms, Entry/Bathroom and Kitchen Reset.
- Friday (Deep Cleaning): if there’s room, choose one small task from this month’s list.
- Saturday (Home Project): tackle a practical home job if it’s needed.
- Sunday (Catch-Up / Reset): catch up on the basics, prepare for Monday, or take the day off.
The weekday zones stay small because the bigger jobs have another place to go. Those labels give the weekend a direction, not three more required cleaning days. You can do just one small project on whichever day works, or skip it.
The 12-month home project rotation
This is the rotation in the OMC cleaning companion. It mixes deeper cleaning, decluttering and seasonal preparation. It’s a planning guide, not a rule that a task only needs doing once a year. Adjust for your home and follow appliance and fabric care instructions.
| Month | Project focus |
|---|---|
| January | Kitchen Reset |
| February | Bedrooms + Closets |
| March | Spring Prep |
| April | Windows + Entry |
| May | Living Areas |
| June | Outdoor / Summer Prep |
| July | Kitchen Deep Clean |
| August | Bedrooms + Back-to-School |
| September | Entry + Storage |
| October | Closet Cleanout |
| November | Kitchen + Hosting Prep |
| December | Holiday Reset + Declutter |

These are optional jobs, not a checklist you must finish this month. Pick one for an available day and agree on its owner. Another adult can take a different task, including putting supplies away and handling any follow-up. Children can learn a suitable small part with support. Each owner checks their own job, so the list doesn’t become more reminders for you.

When Life Happens
When the month gets away from you
Missed a weekend? Don’t double the next one. Reassess that job when there’s room.
The basics need attention? Choose Catch-Up / Reset instead of a project.
Missed a whole month? Start with the current need. An urgent repair or hygiene issue gets dealt with now; optional decluttering can wait.
Make it part of your week
- Weekly cleaning schedule: the daily reset and weekday zones that keep the basics covered.
- A 15-minute bathroom reset: the everyday version, so the monthly job stays the only deep clean.
Your Next Small Win
Choose one task from this month’s focus together. Write its owner and finish beside an available weekend on the family calendar.
